French onion soup is easier than it seems, the trick is to get the best broth you can.
Butcher shops often have real bone broth that works well.

2 large white onions

1 tbsp butter

2 cloves garlic (optional)

6 cups beef broth

1 cup of wine or sherry

6 ounces Jarlsberg or Swiss cheese

4 slices French bread

Charcuterie meats and cheeses

Baguette[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

Thinly slice onions and melt butter in a large pot then brown over medium heat for 5 minutes. Add honey if using and simmer until deep golden brown for about 10 more minutes, stirring frequently to prevent burning. Add garlic if using and cook for an additional 2 minutes. Stir in beef broth and wine or sherry and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and let simmer for 30 minutes.

Ladle soup into individual oven-proof bowls and top with bread then top with cheese. Place in oven on broil for 1 to 3 minutes until cheese is hot and bubbly. Serve with a charcuterie board of sliced meats and cheeses.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row_content” css=”.vc_custom_1531152059323{padding-right: 15% !important;padding-left: 15% !important;background: #5bc9b2 url( !important;}”][vc_column][vc_basic_grid post_type=”post” max_items=”-1″ style=”pagination” element_width=”3″ item=”1525″ grid_id=”vc_gid:1534861192594-a3d7e764-f381-4″ taxonomies=”38″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
